Our new Spiritus Air Fed Welding Mask is here and has been designed to be a real head turner in the workshop. Not only do we have one of the safest air fed welding masks on the market, but we have a system packed full of extra features to further enhance your welding experience. We've made sure that this system will be lighter on the pocket too, with cheap running costs, quick charging battery and long lasting, affordable, consumables.
The Spiritus mask has been in development for a couple of years, we would have loved to release it earlier however we wanted things to be perfect. We have very much enjoyed seeing it go from strength to strength throughout its design process.
The Welding Mask
The Spiritus Air Fed Welding Mask is made of a strong, lightweight polymer. The fully adjustable headband is designed for maximum comfort and should easily fit any head size. The extra larger outer lenses comes in three different colours, clear, yellow and blue to suit the ambient lighting in the workshop. During our testing, our engineers favoured the blue outer lenses but this is down to your own personal preference.
The ADF Unit
We first focused our attention on the lens itself. Looking at how it performed against what was already available and how could it be better. We wanted the to put the largest viewing lens in a mask without compromising clarity. It had to be true colour as these lenses provide crystal clear 1.1.1.1 clarity over the welding pool.
Understanding that welding masks seem to struggle when TIG welding at low amperages, our next step was tackling this issue. This wasn't easy as we had filtered through a lot of prototypes that struggled, even when we did get close, it wasn't perfect. We did it though, we now had a lens that was ultra sensitive and reacted to amperages as low as just 3.
What Are The Benefits Of True Colour ADF Technology?
On standard ADF's, the shade filter unit (ADF) give a dark green/blue hue to the view.
True colour technology offers a more realistic viewing experience by allowing more light wavelengths through, giving you a more natural colour view.
You get a crystal clear view of the weld puddle, once you have used a True Colour mask, you won't want to go back to the standard mask.
What Does 1.1.1.1 Clarity Mean On My Welding Mask?
1.1.1.1 clarity is the highest level of clarity available, so no distortion in what you see through the ADF lens. Some lesser quality ADF shader units can make the view blurry or out of focus.
Extra Mask Features
Some manufacturers of air fed welding masks, would take the above and agree that is all thats needed. With the Spiritus Air Fed Welding Mask, we wanted to give the user more. We introduced a class leading shade range which goes as low as 4 for grinding and cutting, right up to 15 for full protection when welding at high amperages.
For increased clarity, we added two more lenses to the mask. These sit either side of the main lens and provide panoramic viewing angle. This has improved the users awareness to their surroundings with the added bonus of being able to see more of their workpiece. We do provide two blanking plates in the box, so these can be blocked off should the user require a more traditional and focused welding experience.
Air Blower Unit
To ensure we had a great air fed welding mask, we wanted to have one of the best blower units available on the market. We wanted it to be lightweight to reduce fatigue but also retain quality and durability. Most importantly, we wanted to ensure it was safe to use, only settling for the best filtration rating.
What is TH3 Rated Filtration?
A TH3 certified filter, filters out 99.8% of all harmful particles in the breathing air. TH3 is the highest rating a powered air respirator can be given under the European standards. Most of our filtration devices and wearables are rated under 3 classes of protection, with 3 being the highest rating.
Spiritus & TH3 Filtration
We are proud to say that our Spiritus air fed welding mask reached TH3 certification. Most air fed welding masks on the market are TH2 rated, we only settled for the best. The Sprititus air fed welding mask is a TH3 compliant mask that is cheaper than most TH2 compliant masks available.
Three Layers of Filtration
Our air blower unit is made up of 3 filters to ensure your safety. We have a main filter, a stainless steel mesh filter and also an active carbon filter (pre-filter).
Active Carbon Filter
The active carbon filter works on removing odour from welding fumes. This filter also removes the horrible metallic taste you can sometimes get in the mouth. We recommend changing this filter more frequently than the other filters found in the blower unit. This should maintain and ensure a clean air flow up to the mask.
Stainless Mesh Filter (Pre-Filter)
The stainless mesh filter is a robust filter that prevents particles from getting into the main filter. It also adds a layer of protection from sparks that may find their way into the system. As this filter is made from stainless steel, you can maintain this using compressed air and cleaning it off however, at the affordable price it is, you may prefer just putting a fresh one in.
Main Filter
The main filter is the heart of the blower unit and where a lot of the work in creating clean air takes place. We advise changing the main filter as frequently as possible however, it should be able to manage up to 180 hours of use depending on surrounding conditions.
How Often Should I Replace My Air-Fed Welding Mask Filter?
The main air filter should be replaced after 180 hours of use for optimum protection.
If you are working in a very dusty enviroment, you may need to replace filter sooner.
The air blower assy automatically senses air flow pressure due to condition of filter and adjusts accordingly.
If the alarm buzzers sounds due to poor air flow, check filters and replace.
How Long Does An Air Fed Welding Mask Battery Last?
Rest assured, the air fed welding mask should last you all day.
The standard battery 5200mAH supplied with the R-Tech Spiritus Air-Pro will give 8+hrs on a full charge.
Charging time is about 2-3 hours.
One benefit of this mask is it allows on 'On machine charging' - So if you do forget to charge battery, you can plug charger unit it and carry on using mask.
We do have a higher capacity battery 6200mAH battery that will give 10+hrs run time. Part Number: RT-PAPR-55
We also keep our replacement battery costs at a sensible price, so you can purchase a spare battery if you weld for long hours and have 1 on charge.
Technology Inside
The Spiritus air fed welding mask comes with integrated intelligence sensors. These allow the blower unit to automatically adjust to the air quality it is receiving. Should the area become heavily filled with fumes, the blower unit will increase its power to ensure a clean and strong air flow is present.
The blower unit should also warn the user when air flow becomes restricted. It does this by monitoring the air flow going through the filters. Should the filters become clogged with particles, restricting flow, the unit will let out a very loud notification to warn the user that they are now at risk.

Why do we need an Air Fed Welding Mask?.
HSE regulations state that you need sufficient filtration in place when welding is taking place. Filtration will vary depending on your work place and in some cases, an air fed welding mask will keep you covered.
