R-Tech meet The Machine Shop to experience what happens during one of their welding lessons.

Learn to weld at the machine shop

R-Tech meet up with The Machine Shop.

R-Tech's social media guy Dom, and Sales team leader Mike, went over to Hinckley. They met Bob and Maria at The-Machine-Shop.

Mike has been a coded welder in Mig welding (Welding Prison bars to be exact, so behave!) for 20 years. However, he has very little experience in TIG welding. And Dom… is not a welder whatsoever! But we were here to change that.

Welding lessons with R-Tech Welding Equipment

We’ve been working with The Machine Shop since 2020 ( Remember those days?). R-Tech knows the quality of the lessons at The Machine shop are excellent. Therefore we thought it would be a good opportunity to show you what to expect, and have lesson!

The Machine Shop exclusively uses R-Tech Tigs, Migs and ARC, Welders. Their workshops have been kitted out for the past 3 years.
When you visit The Machine Shop for a Welding lesson, you receive a 4 hour in depth lesson. You will be taught using R-Tech Welding equipment. Bob will help you realise your true potential and to show you that you can weld!

What will you learn at The Machine Shop?

We predominantly send you guys up to The Machine Shop to learn Tig welding when you buy a TIG welder. However The Machine Shop also offer lessons in Mig, MMA and even Gas Welding!

So what does happen throughout the day when we send you there? This is how our visit went:

Whilst we were there, we had a chat with Bob and Maria. We asked them a few questions about the Machine shop and how it all started:

Questions:

What is The Machine shop?
The Machine shop is an open access Self Service engineering workshop based in the midlands. We are here to support British engineering ,teach people how to use Welding Machinery and Metal Working Machinery.

Why do you guys do what you do?

We are passionate about everything automotive, cars, bikes, tractors whatever it is. As long as its got an engine in it and you can race it, we love it!

There is a huge community of people in this country that are the same as us. But there is nobody there to support them. There is nobody there to provide services and nobody wants to teach you how to do these things. But that’s exactly what we want to do for people.

We want people to be a bit more hands on and do things for themselves. We believe that everyone is capable, instead of going somewhere and paying someone else for these services.

How long has the machine shop been going for?
We opened the Machine Shop In January 2020 ( Just before Lockdown).
We were open 4 weeks and then we had to close again over lockdown!

Where did you learn to Weld?
Bob: I learned to Weld in Ireland I served my time as a pipe fitter.

Doing a lot of large industrial stuff 6 inches and above. I started getting more interested in the Tig welding side of things. I started building Motorbikes when I was a teenager, building subframes, weld repairs and that kind of thing.

My interest took off from there and I took off down the fabrication route.

My skills really started taking off when I started working for a company called Norton Motorcycles.

Here I  learned to fabricate aluminum petrol tanks and make aluminum chassis and then just general fabrication.

Maria: I learned to Weld at the Machine Shop, I have the best teachers!

They teach you to weld on the best equipment, R-Tech!

How did you originally learn about R-Tech?

When I started teaching these welding lessons, I was using other brands of welders. This is just what I was using in the industry previously, however people kept bringing in these R-Tech Welders.

One was originally brought in and I had never seen or heard of them before. However, when I was setting it up for the guy, I thought to myself ‘’ This is a really nice looking Machine’’.

When I started welding and working with it I thought this is actually really nice!

I had a look at the website and I just could not believe the price of the Machines.

For me, it is a significantly better Machine than others in the same market. They perform just as well as the larger brands, and are just premium welders at a fraction of the price.

Over the coming weeks, we had 10 -15 Machines come into the shop. So I called R-Tech to discuss the options and see what the crack is.

I ended up purchasing 2 Machines at the time and we have used nothing else ever since.

I now have 7 R-Tech Machines in the shop. 3 Tig Welders, 3 Mig Welders, and a plasma cutter. Along with all Masks in the shop being R-Tech, I just love the kit!’’

Round up from Dom & Mike

We had an absolute blast of a day learning how to Tig and Mig at the Machine Shop. We both learned a thing or two!
Now of course we couldn’t show you absolutely everything as you need to experience these things for yourself.
If you get the opportunity, we would highly recommend you spend the day with Bob and his Team at the Machine Shop.

Even if you are an experienced Welder, we guarantee you will walk away having learned a thing or two! Don’t forget, if you purchase any of our Tig Welders, to use code: LEARNTIG at checkout. This entitles you to 1 FREE Tig Welding Lesson at The Machine Shop.
