Only used it for a couple of jobs - building a trolley for the welder and repairing a small area of car bodywork - but it seems very easy to produce nice welds, and it's very adjustable. Taught my 15 year-old to lap weld 3mm steel pretty nicely in about two minutes flat...so it's a very 'helpful' machine.

Used principally for MIG welding on sculptures and my Land Rover chassis. I would recommend this to any hobby welder, although with it is no doubt capable of full time use. Great quality and appears well made. The metal roller mechanism is a great improvement on cheaper machines I have used. Weld quality is good, with less splatter than I?ve been used to. Bought to replace a very old SIP machine (bought in the 90's) and a newer very basic *** *** MIG. Am using this and the R-Tech plasma cutter I bought last year to restore a 70's VW T2. Anyone in the market for a "hobby" MIG welder should consider the R-Tech 180 MIG. Lots of control and *** should you ever need it. I think the tool is high quality and nice and compact compared to the 30 year old 150 amp MIG it replaces which is 4 times the physical size.

As a first time, youtube taught diy welder I needed a machine that was predicable and reliable. Having read many reviews of many different Welders from numerous suppliers, *** was a clear winner...by a mile. Having now used the mig180 for a few days I'm not at all disappointed. As a beginner I needed a machine that was fairly simple but I also needed it to be able to tackle a broad array of different projects. Frankly, it's been fantastic, and although my skill levels are still beginner level, the ease of use and predictability is giving me the confidence to improve. I would genuinely recommend this welder to anyone, especially if you're looking to getting into welding as a first timer...it's a great machine, which as an avid, all things build related youtube viewer, I know it's used by a lot of both professional and ** users. My only cautionary tale as a novice is to remember to factor in the cost (especially the **) and local availability of a decent gas bottle...the little ones from the likes of Toolstation won't cut it in my opinion. Be prepared for the best part of ?200, but saying that, once you have a full sized bottle you're set for years of happy welding!

Well built welder no rough edges smooth wire feed and controllable voltage. This isn't a negative but I struggle to see what the LED display adds to this machine, it only shows the voltage when you're welding so unless I am missing the point you can never see what it's reading. I was expecting it to show the voltage before you welded but this takes nothing away from the machine it's excellent without it.

Mig180 used for classic car repair, the dial settings give full control of power & heat going into the old metal & is a gamechanger from my old ***er. Very easy to use out of the box & the online *** setting chart is a great point to start. The spool-on ** will also let me braze *** panel seams to add strength at a much lower heat so have one of those ordered as well.

The R Tech MIG 180 was purchased to replace a budget MIG and MMA set following other good reviews. I even checked with 3 x eBay sellers who had sold their welder recently and all 3 came back singing praises which was reassuring. The welder is very good on MIG and a pleasure to use. The MMA facility is amasing and using the same rods as my old transformer welder it ** down perfect welds with the slag peeling up from one end - overall an impressive piece of kit

Great for my home workshop and around the farm. I have a poor electric supply but this machine achieves surprising things even on a 13amp supply. Also welds on really low amps so has been great for bodywork on my fleet of rusting vehicles!!

The Mig 180 looks like a very good product. So far I have used it to weld 3mm steel angle. It is far superior to the Machine mart Mig 135 welder that I have used previously. The bulit quality of the controls, wire loading area, earth clamp and torch are great. I would recommed the Mig 180 to any DIY welder or professional. For welding anying from cars to steel angle and box section. I have already completed my first project, a welding trolley for the Mig 180 and gas bottle. And looking forward to the next !

I use the ***er for car body repairs and general ***ing and it produces far better ***s than my old ***. I always thought I was rubbish at MIG ***ing but all the time it was my old ***er that was the problem. My ***ing now is very good. I liked the down to earth videos on your website. The ***er is well made, easy to operate and with infinite adjustment of voltage and wire speed makes for a much better ***. Small adjustments make a big difference to the *** quality.I even enjoy ***ing now.

I mainly use the MIG180 for general automotive fabrication & restoration. My other 180amp MIG, although reliable, lacks the subtlety & fine adjustment of the R-Tech unit. I bought the R-Tech unit as a back-up & for working with thinner gauge material. I also wanted something more portable, for when working away from the workshop. So far, it?s been a pleasure to weld with, I?ve been welding for 25 years, have welded upside down using a mirror to finish welding in roll cages, & have used many bits of kit, this is the most versatile I?ve used by far! If your considering your first MIG, buy one, if your an experienced welder, buy one!

Ver good for the price. Most of my work is with car body steel around 1 mm thick, most machines lack fine adjustment in this lower power range but this machine has good control. I would have liked a horizontal wire spool and twin feed rollers but appreciate that?s probably beyond the price of this machine. Oh and a cover for the spool ** port.

First of all the product arrived incredibly well packed. Not only protecting it, but showing that R-Tech care. I bought the welder to restore my old Jaguar Mk2. I first tried it on some 0.6 mm steel - if it can weld that, it can deal with anything on my car. With minimal set up, it worked brilliantly. The arc is so stable that I can produce good results even with wire speed and voltage a off the optimum. I'd recommend the Mig 180 to anyone and everyone. I'm not an experienced or confident welder so, if it's easy for me to use, it's easy for anyone. It's early days yet, but my impression is that the quality is superb.

I bought this welder mainly for car body work repairs. I am only a hobbyist, so have not had the chance to really use the welder yet, but I have made plenty of tests welds on 1mm thick steel and I found the welder very easy to set up in order to get the perfect weld - very ** without blowing through. I have made plenty of test ** welds and cannot be more pleased with the consistent results. The only real down side to the product i have found is that the led display does not display your amp setting until you start to weld, and of course once you are actually welding it is very difficult to look at the display. But like I have said, I had not trouble setting the welder up using just the knobs. The feed mechanism seems to work very well indeed, very consistent - which is very important for mig welding. So from my experience so far, I am very happy with it.

I'm a custom fabricator and vehicle restorer. I purchased the 180 mig to replace an old transformer based welder that had served me well for the past decade but after my roof leaked onto it the decision was made to get a replacement from R-Tech. I've followed them for years and always seen friends and colleagues sing their praises........ And my word they were definitely right. This welder is so nice to use, the accuracy of the wire feed is just a joy to behold compared to my old machine. I'm using the welder to repair panels on my old t4. It's ideal for anyone doing this sort of job, great arc control and smooth as silk. Quality is excellent, the earth clamp for example has a flat braided copper conductor between the jaws and the contact points are also copper.

Ive never left a review before but wanted to for this... The mig 180 arrived on time and very well packaged. It is waay better build quality than the "hobby" welders ive seen/used and also better in real life than i expected. I havent had a chance to use it yet as waiting for gas but it all looks great. All attachments like 3m torch are strong and well made. The ground lead is very sturdy too. All metal wire feed mechanism is much better than the usual plastic... Could it be improved? Yes... The small earth lead on the case door was rubbing on the edge of the case when i opened the door so had to loosen the nut to move it slightly. I know its a short wire so it doesnt catch on the large wire rolls when they are fitted but maybe another 5mm wouldnt hurt to stop it chaffing. Also a nice touch would be to supply rubber/plastic caps to protect unused sockets like the spool ** feed. I potentially wont be using this for a while so i've had to pop some electrical tape over it to protect it from workshop dust etc. Other than that i cant wait to try it out.

This purchase was a toss up between the *** 162 (which I've had before), the Autostar 160, and the R-Tech 180. I always thought the *** was really good, and compared to my previous *** 151EN it was really good. But what sealed the deal for me was the No quibble guarantee from R-Tech. Also seeing R-Tech commenting on youtube channels where their brand is being used gave me the impression that they care about their image and product. So how does it weld? Completely blows the *** and the *** out of the water. Once you have the settings dialled in, it's just plain sailing delivering consistent, repeatable results so that you spend more time getting the job done, and less time (no time for me) playing with amps and wire speed. And you get a regulator and several replacement tips; you don't get that with *** or ***. 11/10 would buy again without hesitation. Only wishlist item would be to have the recommended Amp/Speed/Metal chart on the inside cover of the wire enclosure. (if it's even possible to fit all that information there)

we use this product both in our fabrication workshop as a bench tool all day long as a mig and also it is used on site as an arc welder outdoors,....a good reliable piece of equipment if used correctly. Make sure it is kept off the ground at a slightly higher level to allow fan to work effectively (approx 900mm) and this also prevents dust and debris from entering .

I purchased the R-Tech 180 Amp Portable Inverter Mig Welder owing to my previous welder having an expensive fault in less than 4 years of ownership. The R-Tech welder is leagues apart in terms of quality and welding ability. For over 50 years I've been a keen ** maker of all sorts and believed any bad welding I happened to do was down to my technique. However, as soon as I started welding with the R-Tech 180 the welds look professional. The arc is lot more "gentle" (if that's the term), and produces much less spatter than any mig welder I've used before. Incidentally, I am only using pub gas CO2. It comes with a 3 year "collect from my door" guarantee, which gives me at least 3 years peace of mind. The only small ** I have with the welder is the torch trigger is a bit too sensitive. The slightest touch and wire and gas are released, but a minor thing to get used to. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

I have as yet only been getting used to the equipment. That said, I have done some perfectly satisfactory welding, good enough to satisfy a good friend who is a top flight general engineer. Material used to date is 16 gauge to 4mm. The equipment has coped well with the different thicknesses of material. So far I have only good things to say about the equipment - Easy to use, good quality earth, the wire feed is easy to load and feeds at a consistent rate, the gauges and piping supplied fitted the gas bottle and the welding machine.

I would class myself as a light user purely automotive. I extensively researched and found this to be the best choice for me. Not the cheapest 180 Mig on the market but, so far performs excellently from wire feed to all welding diciplines, ease of use is top ** via simple no nonsense controls. Like a lot of other welders, the amps supplied is only displayed while the welder is in action?? I am only a hobby welder so no drama. I would give this machine 10/10 and with the 3 year warranty supplied, expect that rating to stay constant. I would not hesitate in recommending this item to anyone.

I mainly use this for diy and some small repairs for work. The machine is really good quality and really easy to setup and use. It is a massive step up from my old transformer machine. This is my fourth, maybe fifth welder over my working career. How I wish I had bought a machine like this years ago, rather than struggling with the poorly made cheap rubbish I bought. Compared to my 5 year old SIP machine it has been night and day - the R-Tech is very consistent. The variable voltage control is very useful when getting the *** just right - the euro torch is a big upgrade from my old machine. The biggest plus for me is hw portable it is - it is sat on my worktop with a cover on it now - the old machine needed a cart and 2 people to get it in the car.

Having had problems with a cheaper flux-cored welding setup, I was advised by several people to try an R-Tech MIG welder. Taking advantage of a special offer, I ordered a MIG 180, along with a welding trolley and some consumables (MIG wire, etc.) Everything arrived the next day, as promised, and once I had assembled the trolley and sorted out a suitable shielding gas bottle, I gave the machine a try. I'm still really just a novice welder, but this thing makes the job so much easier. It looks and feels like a quality product and works like an absolute charm. Easy to control, produces nice clean welds and doesn't feel like it's going to let me down at any point. Initially, I did run into a slight problem with the supplied gas regulator, but a quick phone call to R-Tech support got things sorted out, with a separate flow-meter being supplied free of charge. How's that for service? If you're wanting to MIG weld anything from thin sheet up to 5mm or more, I reckon you couldn't go wrong with one of these machines.

I'm a life long hobbyist who does anything from restoring Land Rovers to making gates. I have got 16amp sockets in my garage to let me use the full 180amp capability but I also have a 13amp 3 pin adapter cable which allows me to use about 130amps when away from the garage. I had a copper coil mig for years because I was convinced they were better than inverters. How wrong I was. The R-tech unit welds better and is 1/4 the size and weight. The only thing I miss from my old machine is the 15kg wire reels but on the other hand 5kg is easier to change.

You get everything you need to start welding in the box other than wire which you are prompted to add if needed, and gas, a regulator is included but I've just used my old reg. I bought spare tips and a spare shroud but a shroud is included with the torch and some spare tips too. So far I can't fault it. Do get a trolley though, it would get knocked around on the floor, I suppose if there is a criticism it's not the most robust feeling unit. But it's well put together and I think if looked after it will last well physically.

The Rtech 180 Mig welder is mainly for use in my own garage at home for car repairs and any manufacturing of parts that require welding. Used the mig 180 on my old transit camper for the first time at weekend & found it to be a great, lightweight but very capable welder! It coped with the rusty chassis with no fuss & with very little spatter which is always good when laying on your back under a van! Only time will tell if it's as good or as robust as the old transformer migs but so far I am very impressed. Easily as good as some of the professional machines I have used over the years in the trade & very easy to set up with precise adjustments of the amps to suit whatever is being welded! A three year extendable warranty makes it a great buy too. I am actually looking forward to getting back under my van , happy days 😁

Still familiarizing myself with the 180 controls and settings. Initially purchased to help with restoration of thin bodywork on an old camper van but first project was to build a welding trolley to carry my old welder + the 180 and two 10kg gas bottles. So far no problems except with the earth clamp copper wire braid working loose. Finding the variable controls more fiddly to getting the weld settings than the fixed switch settings on my old welder. With more use I expect that to become second nature.

Quality welder. Everything just seems better made than my older "hobby" transformer welder. Feels like it is designed and built to a specification, rather than to a price. I bought this after seeing a video on ***'s Blog where he tried to show what happened if you got your settings wrong. Trouble was, even with ridiculous settings he was producing welds as good as I was getting with my transformer welder when it was set up correctly. Took a bit of getting used to the settings and slightly different frying bacon sound, but now my welds look consistently beautiful. Very pleased.

Using for home vehicle restoration and small projects. I don't have much to compare it with but am very happy with the quality. Being new to MIG welding I was initially put off by the dials being 0-10 rather than volts and speed but soon became obvious from many YouTube videos that you can't just dial in standard settings to any welder and get the same result so not a problem. Not used for stick welding as I have another welder for that.

I am not a professional welder and have purchased the mig 180 to assist with the restoration of my classic campervan. one of the reasons that I purchased the product is that I felt that the feed mechanism was robust for a model in this price range and also, the adjustability of power and feed over other makes/models gave the user the advantage to be able to fine tune to a better degree. The ability to use the product as an arc welder was appealing and I can tell you that this model arc wilds very nicely. This is set up on a trolley with a well known gas cylinder and is compact enough to have in the corner of your garage. It is also small enough and light enough to transport without difficulty so for me, the all round versatility gets a big thumbs up from me.

My only gripe is the digital welding display , in that it does not show its read out unless welding which is not practical when actually welding . Easy ordering process, R-Tech answered my pre-sales questions with ease and were charming. Welder arrived via DHL slightly earlier than expected - which was good. Very well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. All you need in the crate to get you up and running quickly (except welding gas). I ordered my 180A MIG without a mains plug to fit my own ABB 16A blue connector. The attached mains cable was the correct size for the current and all wires were stripped and pre-tinned, which was a professional touch. I installed the supplied wire spool, fitted up the gas and powered up after a safety check, worked well using the default settings from R-Tech. Very pleased and I've already added a Plasma cutter and Air Compressor on my wish list from R-Tech for my next purchases.

I am a diy'er novice ***er who will be using this kit for vehicle body repairs / restoration and for making brackets / projects at home. The 180 is a very impressive piece of equipment, well made, using quality components. Even the way the side access door feels and sounds, as it closes, has that 'VW door closing' quality feel about it! Setting up and ***ing with it is such a genuine pleasure. The wire feed assembly is built on a cast ally frame, so wire feed is 100% reliable. I also purchased a flow meter also. Well worth doing as gas control is very precise. (as a tip, I wind open fully the flow valve, then regulate the pressure via the main regulator) Ive also purchased the arc ***ing handle / stinger, but am yet to give it a go. As a novice, coming from an unreliable SIP 130 mig mate, I'm blown away by how brilliant this unit is. The amount of control for voltage and wire speed is mind blowing. The variability to your *** is just about infinite. Seriously, within 20 mins, I was knocking out really good but, lap and T ***s on 3mm plate with excellent **. I'd recommend this set to absolutely anyone. Novice or expert alike. An amazing bit of kit that will not disappoint.

Very well packaged with everything needed to get started. The main box is very light, realitively speaking, for it's power and size. The controls are simple, well placed and ideal for the beginner and expert alike. Winding on the 5KG roll of wire wasn't fiddly, and my two apprentices managed this with ease after a quick demonstration by me. The torch is comfortable to hold, the lead is more than long enough, and the fittings are good quality and long lasting. One of my apprentices has never welded before and after five minutes was welding to a good structural quality. There is a chart of 'voltages vs speed vs material' included in the box which gives very accurate setting suggestions.

Outstanding performance and build quality, very technically advanced compared to my 25 year old mig welder.. So advanced but simple, my 17 year old son has Cerebral Palsy and is in an electric wheelchair and the older he gets the more its affecting his hands and eye co ordination but he loves using this little welder and is doing very well. Welder did everything asked for - 3mm - 5mm steel Only minor problem welding torch leads plastic cover - euro connector end - kept coming unscrewed & dropping off exposing torch connection leads - small piece of black insulation tape stopped problem.

I tried cheaper welders in the past and convinced myself that I was useless at welding. I saw the reviews on this welder and decided to give mig welding another try. I was plesently suprised that with this welder I am able to produced good welds.

Bought this as a 'Top end Hobby welder' and it doesn't disappoint. It replaces a fairly new 150 a Mig which I have off loaded to my brother! Far easier to set up and use. Im looking forward to trying a bit of Alu welding, something I though would be out of my depth. Really pleased with the operation and the solid feel of the machine. Cant fault it at all really/

My old mig ***er gave up and on reading many reviews I opted for this one, I must say so far I?m very happy. Up to 160amps you can also use this on a normal 13amp plug👍.I set it up using the settings recommended in the instructions and although I?m only an at home hobby ***er on my old cars it quite easy to get a nice consistent ***. If you are looking for a new ***er I would definitely say this is worth a second look.

As a hobbyist/DIY I had been using a family members 20+ year old mig with dodgy wire feed speed etc so researched the options and the rtech 180 mig kept coming up with good reviews, have to say it seems an absolutely cracking machine and it works really well, even in the hands of a novice, well worth the cost as I have likely recovered half the purchase price with my first repair to the project car I am doing. I am using the mig 180 with a 13amp to 16amp lead and it has coped effortlessly with everything so far including some stick welding. Overall, I would recommend this welder to anyone that wants or needs a mig welder, its a quality piece of kit with good back up should you need it and good customer service, try it you won't be disappointed.

I am a hobbyist and use the welder for car restoration. I would recommend this welder for any occasional user or more regular home workshop user. I have always purchased the best tools I can afford and whilst this welder was more expensive than the usual SIP, *** and other "hobby" machines, I have found the investment worth it to date.

I use this *** for repairing old cars. In the past I've had a SIP *** and a *** *** both were similar in that they had just four settings for the welding current, even using the lowest setting led to difficulty trying to weld continuously with ** holes. The infinitely controllable voltage on the Rtech *** makes it an excellent piece of kit for working on old cars. I'd recommend this *** to anyone.

I purchased the welder for my hobby of restoring my Mini, I am a novice with some college training. The welder was easy to set up and use, the first welds were good from the start and I was able to produce neat welds with ** almost straightaway. The machine is compact and not too heavy and it's manouverable, so all in all I am very pleased with it. I would recommend it to anyone for their garage / workshop to do work on their car as a hobby!

The machine will be used for business use as well as hobby use. I'd certainly reccomned the product to any hobbyist, or car body shops, and it's certainly a nice little welder for carrying out small fabrication, very smooth delivery when welding, even at low power and wire speed it still lays down a good weld. The only little bit I would improvement quailty wise is the wire spool holder, with the 5kg rolls, the spool of wire can soon drop off the back edge, in my opnoin, it would be better if the ** in dolly was deeper, or the rear edge was made deeper to hold the spools of wire better.

I was completely blown away by how good this Mig180 really is. I've been in the welding trade for 23 years, and having decided to set up a small workshop, I am restricted to 240v but need a welder. I was very apprehensive about getting a single phase welder as my experience with them in the past has always left a sour taste in my mouth. After a lot of research I decided upon the MIG 180 which is an inverter not the cheap transformer based ones you'd get for very similar price at a well known mart. First thing I notice when it arrived, was the weight, it feels like it has a reel of wire already in it making it a heavy little machine, as *** the blade (** movie) would say "heavy is good, heavy is reliable". It comes really well packaged! Setting up is same as any other MIG and is very straight forward. Nice to see you get a couple of extra tips in 0.6mm & 0.8mm and a handy little spanner for the tips and gas diffuser. Now I knew from reviews that this was better than a transformer 240v MIG, but I didn't think it would be this good! This little box packs a punch, it felt like I was using a 3 phase MIG on lower amps. Its smooth to operate and gives welds as good as high end machines in the right hands, I'm very impressed with it, easy weld up to 6mm. For the price of what you get, this is a bargain, its a single phase welder that thinks its powered by 3 phase! Now my only ** with it, 1, the gas line from the machine to the regulator is very soft and expands under gas pressure, but that's minor, and 2, the amp lcd readout only reads when the machine is welding, it would be great if it had a 20/30sec delay after you stop welding so you could view it. Both minor and do not effect this machines capabilities! I'd highly recommend this to everyone wanting a cheap MIG, a rookie learning to weld in his shed to professionals needing an easily portable MIG for site welding, its that good!!

I can't really rate this product, my wife bought it for me for a Christmas present so other than checking that it fires up and attempts to wire and gas feed when the trigger is pressed I've not used it yet. Following my experiences with my previous R Tech MMA/TIG inverter powered welder I wanted an inverter powered MIG welder to replace my present, very long in the tooth MIG. This new welder appears to be as well made as the previous one.

Although I consider myself as a novice *** and have been welding with my *** *** for some 7 years now, on various projects mainly car body work and occasionally thicker steel. I?ve set up my new Mig *** from R Tech and have used it once. It?s early days but it is a massive step up in quality from my old ***. The way it delivers the wire and *** is so smooth it makes welding so much easier than before. The variable voltage is excellent and provides the required adjustment to get my welding looking like a professional did it. Thanks R Tech. Love the Mig.

Well packaged which is always the first mark of quality. Well made, and sits proudly alongside my Rtech Tig 160. Fires up fine, but not had a chance to test it yet due to a lack of wire. Perhaps include a small spool for running a full test in future (as some Migs come with a small spool)?

I'm a welder by trade in the marine sector and have bought this for use at home, would definitely recommend for anyone looking to weld from 0.8mm - 5mm steel with ease. Fantastic range of settings for different ** types/thickness of material and position of weld. Money well spent in my opinion.

I am repairing a classic car and find the quality of the welds this machine produces is far better than my old welder (from a popular high street tool shop). I also make trailer chassis using 50x50x3 box section and find that the welds require less cleaning up than before. The machine is very well built and I expect it will last a long time.

I use the mig180 in my small hobby workshop, its a great machine I would consider using one in my full time job. Quality seems to be great although I think a 5m torch should be standard.
