Plasma cutting is a process that is used to cut steel and other metals using a plasma cutter.
In this process, compressed air is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that air from the nozzle to the surface being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut.
As they only require electricity and compressed air to run they are a very efficient and easy means of cutting metals. Plasma Cutters use consumables in the end of the torch, normally these are: an electrode to carry the current, a cutting tip and a ceramic cup to encase the electrode and the cutting tip.
Clean cut means the cut metal would require no or little cleaning before being used, this is used normally when items are to be welded etc.
Severance cut means that the metal will be cut through all the way but the bottom part of cut metal would need to be cleaned up if required to be welded etc, Severance cut is normally used for cutting up scrap materials to be disposed of.
